How do I pause and save a Windows game on a Windows guest on Virtualbox, to resume it at the exact artificial...

-1

I am using a Windows XP virtual machine as guest under Virtualbox, on a Ubuntu Linux host. I have installed an old game from an executable file. It works fine, as it was on a direct Windows machine. However, I would like to "cheat" and create saving points where the game doesn't offer them, in saving the virtual machine's state. So far, I have tried:

  • Creating a snapshot

  • Pausing the game and creating a snapshot

  • Saving the machine state

  • Pausing the game and saving the machine's state.

When I restore the snapshot or reboot the virtual machine, it crashes and reports an error. After I boot it a second time, the machine works fine again, but the artificial saving point of the game is gone.

Is there any way to do this?

  • "Save the machine state" works sometimes.

  • Can you provide the game name?
