Gamepad integration bridge between steam-launcher and dolphin-emulator on linux
I've been given the task of creating a game console replacement using a PC. One of the things people who use game consoles expect of them is, you can do everything you need to do using a controller. Console people don't want or expect to need a keyboard.
- So far I've integrated:
- Ubuntu 18.10 for operating the machine
- Valve Steam for providing a controller-friendly configurable launcher
- Dolphin emulator for impersonating a Nintendo and doing gamepad mapping
This all works, and I can get the PC booting directly into Big Picture for ease of use with a controller. What I can't figure out is: once the user leaves Big Picture by launching Dolphin, they've left BP but are not yet in a Dolphin game. So, the controller goes dead. Currently, they have to pick up the m+kb, select the game to play in Dolphin's UI, then pick the controller back up and keep going.
I'd like to obviate the need for the m+kb if I can. Something like qjoypad seems close, but I don't need general usability of the gamepad in Ubuntu and I'm also concerned that it'll register double inputs during a game if I use qjoypad to map the controller to kb/m inputs globally.
I hope my problem is at least somewhat clear from this explanation; thanks for any advice!
