How to stop my camera from exaggerating differences in skin colour?

The skin colour of my subject is widely inconsistent and I am not sure what the reason for it is. To me it looks like the side of the face suffers from a colour shadow thrown by the bright hair. At the same time, the skin colour closer towards the centre of the face seems like an exaggeration of minor differences in colour of the subject's skin. Those reddish/pink spots aren't really visible to my eye. What is the best approach to avoid such issues as I am taking a photo so I don't have to try and fix it in Photoshop afterwards?
