Lenovo laptop thinks battery level is critical and automatically goes to sleep

I have strange problem with Lenovo Ideapad 700-15ISK with Windows 10. Quite often (few times a day) it randomly goes to sleep while working on battery.

I discovered that this is because the laptop thinks battery is almost empty and so it goes to sleep according to Power Plan settings. It is the "When battery is critical" settings which can be set to sleep/hibernate/turn off. When I set it to turn off for example then instead of going to sleep, the laptop randomly turns off.

Sometimes it manages to display notification about critical battery shortly before proceding to sleep mode. Battery is never critical, it does this even with like 70 % of battery life.

Is this even a software problem or something hardware-related with the battery?

Thanks for help.

  • Most likely explanation is that the battery needs to be replaced.
