“open windows powershell” not working from windows 10 file explorer

Not sure what happened, but when I open windows 10 file explorer and goto the menu:

File->Open Windows PowerShell->Open Windows Powershell

Then it doesn't do anything. Meaning it doesn't open a powershell window. I just does nothing.

Strangely, it still works if I goto:

File->Open Wndows PowerShell->Open Windows Powershell as administrator

Any ideas how to fix this problem? Because it very handy to open
powershell window in the current file explorer directory:

  • This is a Windows Explorer issue, not a PS specific thing. I'd suggest using System Restore a go back to a time where it was working. Now, using a restore will impact your current working state, so, you need to evaluate if it is worth that.

  • Does the problem exist regardless of the current directory Explorer has open? Are you able to open up Powershell from Run (Win+R, type "powershell", click OK)?

  • it lauches ok from start menu... just doen't launch from "file explorer" short cut as described above.
