Can't disable microphone auto-adjust

0

Windows 10 user here.

I'm suffering from my mike auto adjusting as I talk.

When I talk loudly, microphone volume goes down and doesn't go back for a while, so I sound too quiet.

This slider is literally moving on its own as I talk:

screenshot of microphone properties dialog

This only happens only when I'm in a video call, e. g. WebEx, Hangouts, Google Meet -- even in a browser tab!

WebEx has a checkbox to disable auto-adjusting and it seems to help, but Google Meet doesn't have any auto-adjustment config options.

Note: I do have the Allow applications to take exclusive control checkbox disabled, and it doesn't help.

Note: the same problem happens to a webcam mic, so it's not about my sound card drivers/configuration.

Note: I don't have a Google Talk Plugin registry entry, so the only successful fix that I've been able to google up is not applicable. :(
