What does the MSV acronym in Microsoft MSV authentication package stand for?

0

I've been looking everywhere for the meaning of Microsoft's MSV authentication package (https://support.microsoft.com/cs-cz/help/102716/ntlm-user-authentication-in-windows). For what I've read, it works with the NTLM hashes of the users, but the meaning of this acronym is nowhere to be found.

  • I believe it stands for multi-step verification but I have no source for that.

  • MS often stands for "Microsoft" in the naming convention. So it might also mean "Microsoft verification".
