Can I download and install just the VS 2017 15.9.4 update?

0

I have Visual Studio 2017 on my build machine now and all is well. I need to install VS2017 15.9.4 update so that I can move forward with the .NET Core 2.1.7 install. I've tried doing this from within VS and I am getting:

An installed product matching the following parameters cannot be found.

installPath: C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual Studio2017Enterprise.

The log file that is generated has this in it:

Error: Microsoft.VisualStudio.Setup.Download.DownloadFailureException:

WebClient download failed: Unable to connect to the remote server. Bits download failed:

Error context: BG_ERROR_CONTEXT_REMOTE_FILE, Error code: -2145844845.

WinInet download failed: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I'm not sure what remote server can't be hit. Can I just download the update and install it? Or do something on my build server to make it access the "remote server"?

  • The upgrade process for Visual Studio 2017 requires you to download the entire ISO and reinstall each individual component you wish to update. I suggest downloading a VS 2017 15.9.4 ISO and upgrading that way. How you accomplish this is well documented if there is a specific step you are stuck on, provide that information. "I'm not sure what remote server can't be hit." - I will take this as a literal question, it's a Microsoft server, if your trying to update an offline installation that would be the reason you got this error.
