IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe taking up a lot of memory

IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe process is taking up 2GB of memory. I know it's Intel Rapid Storage Technology but I don't think it's normal for it to take that much RAM. What can I do? I know I can stop the service but if it's running it must be doing something right?

I tried to download latest version available for Windows 7 from their website (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27400/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-Interface-and-Driver) but it says platform not supported when I run it.

I tried to run Microsoft Safety Scanner (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download) and I have no malware.

I ran Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html) and it says not software updates available.

OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1

RST version: 4.3.0.1542

  • (1) Microsoft Safety Scanner is useless, don't trust it. (2) Try to download an update from the Intel Rapid Storage Technology page.
