The way partitions are arranged affects the MBR of a hard drive?

0

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3558.

I have a 500 GB hard drive that I use for two things:

  1. Allocate personal data of my main OS (which is allocated in a 120GB SSD) and is the first volume of that drive's partition table

  2. Allocate a second OS (Kali Linux 2018.3) and all its partitions below the aforementioned partition.

Both OS are installed in UEFI mode, but Kali Linux won't boot. I've tried checking the original ISO, reinstalling the OS, making sure the EFI address of Kali was well located in the BIOS table, but now I'm curious whether the way I've arranged the partition table of this disk affects somehow the boot.

I'm asking since moving my data partition so the OS would be first, will take a long time and I risk to lose my data.

(Also to read your answers to whatever you think might be the cause of the problem)
