global find/replace in OOo Writer from a list

Years ago I used a wp called New York Word. One feature of this wp allowed the user to list search and replace words as entries in a format "word=newword" in a list of multiple entries. You could open a document then run this list and in one operation all the listed x1=x2 entries would be found and replaced instead one replacement for each, manually.

Is there a way, a macro, etc., that can do this in OpenOffice Writer? Ideally I would have a line per entry in a text file or list. Replacements with formatting options (Font...) would be great.
