Specifically, there's an application I want to fix by understanding what happens to it before it freezes and the terminal only tells me the libraries it's loading. But I'd like to use a tool like this for other things too that are mostly network related and don't know how to go about it.

I'd like to be able to monitor activity for running processes or applications and processes associated with them. I'd like specific information like what files the process is accessing, the network activity, the status, the number of instances, and similar information. I'd also like to be able to record or log the activity. This seams similar to what I want, but they're windows tools. ps and htop seam a little weak but I haven't used them. I'm running Debian 9.7.

  • This is too broad, you can use strace, content of /proc/<PID> directory and some other tools
