A tech meeting intended for everyone in the group only opens to some of the members

The manager arranged a meeting to discuss something new in the area, which is supposedly for everyone in the group. Instead the manager only asks for specific members in the group to attend the meeting. Is this a bad sign for people that are not invited to attend?

Why do you think the meeting is intended for everyone if only a subset are invited? It's pretty common that things get discussed with different subsets of team members at different points in time. Is there something common about the people invited (i.e. are they the senior folks, experts in X, people in a particular role, etc.)?

Another consideration: are the people not invited currently working on something with a close deadline?

Can you please elaborate what you mean by "bad sign"? They will get fired? Not get to work with the tech? Not respected? Also, as previously requested, please elaborate on what is meant by "which is supposedly for everyone in the group"? What does this mean? Supposedly everyone was meant to be invited? Everyone is meant to work on the tech?

@JustinCave: you should transform your comment into a proper answer. While your question is valid, the rest applies regardless.
